Macro photography with ALPA and Phase One: "When insects become huge".

The ALPA Rodenstock / ALPA Macro Switar 5.6 / 105 mm is a lens with a magnification factor of 1:4 to 4:1.

AIn addition, the user can optimise the image size by means of a floating lens that covers magnifications from 1:3 to 3:1. The sharpness is outstanding and limited only by diffraction. At 1:1 distortion is virtually non-existent, chromatic aberration is minimised and contrast performance is superior.

Rodenstock/ALPA Macro Switar 105mm/5.6 Lens - Up to 4:1

The Macro Switar offers an 82 mm image circle over its entire operating range. The image circle therefore allows tilting and panning movements. The lens incorporates a 12-blade diaphragm that makes the aperture circle perfect. This fact helps to create exceptional bokeh. Due to its central shutter mechanism, it is best used together with the ALPA 12 FPS or any ALPA configuration with a digital back with electronic shutter. ALPA consultant Ralph Rosenbauer and photographer Bernhard Schurian used this macro optic on the Natural History Museum Berlin in combination with the ALPA 12 FPS and a Phase One IQ3 100 MP. Thanks to this equipment, he captured insects at an ultra-magnified level, showing even the smallest parts of the hair of these tiny animals.
  • More than 1000 shots had to be taken for each individual insect. To do this, several computers had to be used simultaneously.
  • Dust, lint and preparation needles were then removed from the insects. The data were also prepared for further processing.
  • The end result shows the insects as they have never been seen before: with sharpness, clear details and vivid colours.
