Testing the innovative Sony a9 III with the new Satos generator from broncolor

Sony's new a9 III camera is a game-changer in photography with innovative features that redefine the art form.

Urs Recher de broncolor has explored what the currently fastest camera with the fastest power pack, Satos, can achieve. We were able to flash 300 times in 10 seconds! For the planned shoot we didn't need 300 images. With 24 correct exposures, we had more than enough for our project: dropping an iPhone 14 into an aquarium filled with water.

Here are the 9 crucial images from a series of a total of 21 exhibitions:

Briefly on the configuration

A normal P70 reflector (with a narrow grid) placed vertically on the stone can be considered as the main light. At a 90° angle from the right, a small 35×60 cm light box illuminated the scene. A white acrylic plate served as a background, behind which a lamp without a light-former was placed. The distance between this light and the plate defined the concentric brightness gradient. To get more air bubbles, an assistant poured water into the aquarium with a watering can before starting the imaging sequence. Once these bubbles were in the right place, we started the series and released the iPhone.

Photographs were taken with a full-frame mirrorless camera with aperture 11 and ISO 125.
